As you walk around the lake, or along\u00a0the granite cliffs, or in the woods, or on the mountain crests, you see them. \u00a0At some time, some visitors picked a spot, their spot, and built one. \u00a0I think there are more than\u00a050 of them left\u00a0standing. \u00a0Made from natural materials at hand, they are not so different from a Flock House made from recycled stuff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/on-bolder-Mohonk-800-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/on-bolder-Mohonk-800-72.jpg\" alt=\"on bolder Mohonk 800 72\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/on-bolder-Mohonk-800-72.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/on-bolder-Mohonk-800-72-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/on-bolder-Mohonk-800-72-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, I have stopped, and entered one. It beckoned, and I went. \u00a0I felt a kind of magic, standing there, or sitting on a built-in bench. \u00a0Someone long ago\u00a0carved it out, and now I could just step across the threshold and\u00a0be there. \u00a0My mind seemed to grasp a vision defined within the space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420491.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-111\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420491-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"P1420491\" width=\"625\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420491-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420491-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420491-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some startle because\u00a0that they are cantilevered from the edge of a cliff. \u00a0Others are\u00a0perched on a rock. How did just regular visitors build these? \u00a0It is an act of faith to step into it, trusting that it will\u00a0hold my weight. A touch of anxiety, like stepping into an elevator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420498.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-112\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420498-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"P1420498\" width=\"625\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420498-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420498-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/P1420498-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One day I realized that it was not necessary to actually go in. \u00a0Just by passing it, seeing it from the trail, its presence evoked a state of mind. \u00a0Contemplative. Peaceful. Placed along the trails, these invitations to stop supported my ability to\u00a0envision. Improved my ability to think about whatever was on my mind.<\/p>\n<p>You can see where this is going. The Flock House at Bemis, built improbably next to the\u00a0Okada building, in the Old Market of Omaha, might have the same impact.
