Moving north, it begins\u00a0to dawn on me that the environment is\u00a0changing. The landscape was sleepy and residential, but now the street signs are\u00a0eye-catching.\u00a0Large, bright, celebratory. By the time I reached 24th and Lake\u00a0I was in a jaw dropping zone of\u00a0transformation. I imagined myself entering <i style=\"color: #111111;\">Brigadoon<\/i>, and looking at\u00a0another (unseen) sign, &#8220;Genius at Work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I turned into the (free) parking lot at <a title=\"Carver Bank - project and location\" href=\"http:\/\/omaha.net\/carver-bank\" target=\"_blank\">Carver Bank<\/a>.\u00a0There was a 5 sided Flock House. \u00a0I reached for my camera, got out of the car into damp air following a hard rain, and started shooting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Carver-Bank-FH-800-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Carver-Bank-FH-800-72.jpg\" alt=\"Carver Bank FH 800 72\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Carver-Bank-FH-800-72.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Carver-Bank-FH-800-72-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Carver-Bank-FH-800-72-624x351.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The raised planting beds had beets and tomatoes. A newly planted oak tree framed my shot. The\u00a0environment framed the Flock House and drew me to\u00a0enter the Carver Bank building. Amanda saw me through the widow and pointed me around to the front of the building.\u00a0The former bank\u00a0front,\u00a0sandblasted, has\u00a0a new surface with older words still visible. \u00a0Palimpsest.\u00a0A sign that I recognized as part of my Flock House journey.<\/p>\n<p>I entered a gallery. The art on the walls was colorful geometric painting on wood, cut into pieces and reassembled with\u00a0electric energy. Carefully crafted, fitted like stone\u00a0walls at Machu Picchu. A collection of collages drew me closer for\u00a0study. Each collage,\u00a0a curation of\u00a0pattern and color. An imaginary world. My jaw now hung helplessly\u00a0from its hinges.<\/p>\n<p>Then J appeared, like a temple virgin, with quiet, warm welcome. She was holding her\u00a0drawing of the Flock House at Carver Bank.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/drawing-tight-800-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-143\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/drawing-tight-800-72.jpg\" alt=\"drawing - tight 800 72\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/drawing-tight-800-72.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/drawing-tight-800-72-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveststudioonline.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/drawing-tight-800-72-624x351.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She drew it with Amanda, the Curator of the Flock House Project at Bemis and Carver Bank, who sat\u00a0in a warm wood-paneled library adjoining\u00a0the gallery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Who are these people in your drawing? &#8220;This is me&#8221; (green dress), and that&#8217;s\u00a0Amanda (bright red hair).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is that a fire? &#8220;Yes. \u00a0They are cooking marshmallows. They burned it. Was this\u00a0the work of one of the resident artists at Carver Bank?<\/p>\n<p>Before leaving, I stepped into Big Mama&#8217;s Sandwich Shop, an extension of Carver Bank. I could not leave without tasting their famous sweet potato ice cream. I was wise to follow my intuition.
