Would you like to spend time in a Flock House?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">a. 60 visitors to the Flock House Omaha Exhibit either examined the NYC Flock House on display and answered the questions at a table next to the Flock House, or entered the NYC Flock House. It was set up as a studio where they used the <em>7 questions<\/em> sheet, pens, drawing boards, drawing materials and model building materials. Fifty said they would like to spend time in a flock house. Most responded with a simple \u201cYes\u201d or \u201cYes!\u201d Some responded with \u201cSure,\u201d \u201cAbsolutely,\u201d \u201cMost likely,\u201d \u201cSounds like fun,\u201d and \u201cI would like to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Five responded \u201cNo.\u201d Their reasons were that the Flock House \u201clooks dirty,\u201d \u201clooks cold,\u201d (has) \u201cno door,\u201d (is) \u201cexposed,\u201d \u201cexhibitionistic,\u201d and \u201cwithout the pleasure of security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Three responded \u201cmaybe,\u201d one \u201cprobably,\u201d and one did not respond.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Since 50 out of 60 wanted to spend time in a Flock House, I take this as strong evidence that Flock House is an idea with appeal. It is closely associated to other structures with strong appeal such as a hut, play house, cabin, tent, teepee, gypsy cart, covered wagon, tiny house, Etc. These structures resonate with expectations that are both adventuresome and atmospheric<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Some who said yes, also qualified their enthusiasm for spending the night. It might depend on \u201cweather conditions,\u201d it would \u00a0\u00a0 be \u201ctemporary\u201d only, &#8220;it would have to be set up inside, and security issues would need to be explored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">b. \u00a0Forty visitors strongly desired to spend time in a Flock House. However, other a positive responses were filtered by the physical situation in which they envisioned inhabiting a Flock House. These filters divided into Nature filters, Conditions filters, and Atmosphere filters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>Nature filters<\/em>: These linked to a natural form or to camping as an outdoor activity. Six natural forms are: \u201ca more natural setting\u201d \u201cby the lake,\u201d \u201cunder a huge tree,\u201d \u201cIn the woods,\u201d \u201cin a field,\u201d and \u201cmountains. Three camping filters are: \u201ccamping\u201d \u201csubstitute for a tent,\u201d and \u201ccamp out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>Conditions Filters<\/em> are qualifications about inhabiting a Flock House. They reflect the attempt to envision how it might be, and how it might fit into one\u2019s life. Five filters are: \u201cif diminished belongings, possible live here,\u201d \u201cbut not as a permanent habitat,\u201d \u201cI need to think about what I would do to pass the time, \u201cI\u2019d want at least a week. To gain the full experience,\u201d and \u201cI want one in my back yard!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>Atmosphere filters<\/em> were A place to accomplish and Context\/state of mind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">A place to accomplish filters are: \u201cHaving something you want to do there,\u201d \u201cSee what it feels like,\u201d \u201cAn experience I have not had before,\u201d \u201cread a book,\u201d \u201cart making,\u201d and \u201ca home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">\u00a0Context\/State of mind filters are: \u201cbeing alone,\u201d \u201cbeing with other artists,\u201d \u201cclear the mind,\u201d calm place of \u00a0 contemplation,\u201d and \u201cto lounge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">c. Visitors who responded to this question sometimes added observations about the Flock House as a structure. Some contemplated how its features might impact their experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As a structure: Observations are:\u00a0its \u201cexposure to weather,\u201d it \u201cwould glow at night,\u201d \u201cwould be cold, and \u201cseems a bit too open to the public.\u201d Also, it \u201csounds like fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0The adaptations identified by inhabitants included changes in life-style, personal response, hesitations, and making a final determination about staying in a Flock House.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0Adaptations for inhabitants are that a Flock House \u201crequires less belongings for living.\u201d The inhabit will \u201cgo back to basics of life,\u201d and \u201cbe vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0One personal response to these adaptations is: it is \u201csomeplace to relax and unwind.\u201d Another is \u201cI think I would be more productive, more physical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0Hesitations to commit to staying in the Flock House echo the filters expressed section \u201cb\u201d (above). \u201cWhat would I do there?\u201d I am so used to my bed and lifestyle.\u201d \u201cI need certain degree of comfort and would need to feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0Yet, others used this question to declare, definitively, their commitment to staying there, or the adaptations they required from the Flock House.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">I definitely would \u2013 homeless at this time anyhow. So commitment is no problem (smiley face)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">I wouldn\u2019t like at night, the sides being too exposed. I think I would use canvas fabric instead of as it was to stay at NYC (Flock House).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">I\u2019d love to take a house into a more natural setting.
